The purpose of the DeNeuville Learning Center is to guide women from all backgrounds and cultures in learning the skills that are needed to make positive choices for themselves and their families. It is accomplished through education, counseling, and promoting ways to enhance one’s self-worth and dignity.
DeNeuville offers classes in Computer Studies, GED Preparation, English as a Second Language (ESL), Money Management, Citizenship Test Preparation, Parenting, Anger Management, Sewing, Cake Decorating, and much more. We also provide job readiness and search assistance programs for our students. In addition, DeNeuville also provides counseling services and assists women with babysitting and emergency needs.

History
The DeNeuville Learning Center began with the Sisters of the Good Shepherd. Founded by St. Mary Euphrasia, the Sisters of the Good Shepherd have maintained their congregation mission to assist girls and women in difficult situations since 1835. The Good Shepherd Sisters arrived in Memphis in 1875 and established the DeNeuville Heights School for Girls, a residential program that assisted teenage girls and families. Upon closing the DeNeuville Heights School for Girls in 1997, a new mission began.
The House of the Good Shepherd of Memphis d.b.a DeNeuville Learning Center was founded in 1998 by the Sisters of the Good Shepherd and continues in their legacy as an independent, public charity dedicated to providing services to women and families in need. In 2006, thanks to a grant from the Assisi Foundation, DLC moved to its current location at 190 South Cooper Street in Midtown. The mission of DeNeuville Learning Center is to empower women to improve their lives through education and community. We fulfill this mission by providing high-quality educational programs and support to adult female students with limited resources.
The services offered at DeNeuville Learning Center are part of a comprehensive, holistic approach that focuses on the educational, social, emotional, and spiritual needs of the women we serve. The program encourages women to participate in a learning environment that allows them to work at their own pace, address obstacles to learning, identify their full potential, and celebrate their accomplishments. The purpose of our program is to address systemic problems to close the prosperity gap for economically vulnerable women and children.

DeNeuville offers classes in: GED and High School Equivalency Preparation, English as a Second Language (ESL), Computer Studies, Citizenship Test Preparation, Sewing, and much more. DeNeuville also provides child care services, counseling support, monthly enrichment workshops, and emergency needs assistance as available.
DeNeuville Learning Center is funded by the support of our community partners, individual donors, and grants, and does not receive funding through the government, United Way, or diocese. DeNeuville Learning Center is a public, independent 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. All donations are tax deductible. Tax ID EIN: 62-0563294.
